Bandera del Grito De Lares

La bandera del Grito de Lares; fue concebida y creada por el Doctor Ramon Emeterio Betances, como la bandera de la Republica de Puerto Rico. Su dise~o esta basado en la bandera de la Republica Dominicana, pero con los colores rojo y azul divididos en una cruz blanca latina, y una estrella blanca en el lado azul superior, izquierdo. Mariana Bracetti, conocida como Brazo de Oro, bordo la bandera original, y fue utilizada en el Grito de Lares, el 23 de Septiembre de 1868. Tras aplastada la rebelion, la bandera original fue capturada por un oficial Espa~ol, y paso a manos de su familia por generaciones, hasta que regreso a Puerto Rico, donde es preservada en el Museo de La Universidad De Puerto Rico, en Rio Piedras. En 1988, la bandera original regreso a Lares, luego de ser sometida a una restauracion estructural; el Instituto Smithsoniano estuvo a cargo de su restauracion. Una copia de la bandera del Grito de Lares es usada actualmente como substituto de la original, y se encuentra en exhibicion, en El Centro Cultural 23 De Septiembre. Hasta 1895, la bandera del Grito de Lares fue el estandarte del Independentismo, pero fue reemplazada por la actual bandera Puertorrique~a. En 1952, fue adoptada por el Municipio de Lares como su bandera municipal. En el presente, el Indepedentismo, y Nacionalismo Puertorrique~o, usan ambas banderas. Para ellos, la bandera de Lares representa la bandera de la revolucion y de la lucha por la independencia.

The Flag of the Cry of Lares, was conceived and created, by Doctor Ramon Emeterio Betances, as the flag of the Republic of Puerto Rico. Its design is based on the flag of the Dominican Republic, but with the red and blue fields positionedup and down, divided by a white, latin cross, and a a white star on the left blue field. Mariana Bracetti, known as Brazo de Oro (The Arm of Gold,sew the original flag, and it was used on the uprising known as el Grito de Lares (the Cry of Lares). After the rebellion was crushed, an officer in the Spanish Army, took the flag as a war trophy, and it was in his possesion, and his family's for years, until it was return to Puerto Rico. It's currently on exhibition on the Museum of the University of Puerto Rico, in Rio Piedras. As part of the celebrations of the Cry of Lares, in 1988, the original flag return to the place where it all started; following a restauration process to his structural body. The Smithsonian Institute took the task of restoring the flag. Currently, in the 23 of September Cultural Center, a replica of the orginal flag it's on display. As for the Independence movement, it remain as its standard until 1895, when the current flag of Puerto Rico was introduced. In 1952, it became the official flag of the Municipality of Lares. For the Independence, and Nationalist, movements , the flag of Lares is used alongside the flag of Puerto Rico; while our current flag represent the Nation, the Lares' flag represents the Revolution and Struggle for our Independence.
